Award-winning playwright Nathan Jackson will be featured in a “behind the scenes” look at play writing, “Inside the Writers Workshop,” at Kansas City Kansas Community College Thursday, Feb. 19.
Dr. Charles Leader, the Director of the KCKCC Theatre Department, will host an on-stage discussion with Jackson from 10-11 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue. Short segments of Jackson’s works featuring KCKCC acting students will also be showcased.
A graduate of Washington High School, KCKCC and Kansas State, Jackson is currently pursing a Masters in Fine Arts degree at famed Julliard in New York City. While at Kansas State, he was instrumental in the formation of the Ebony Theatre group and the forensics team, winning a national award in Interpretation of Poetry.
Jackson also began his career as a playwright at Kansas State, twice winning awards at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre for plays that center on life in Kansas City, Kansas. In addition, he’s been the recipient of the Lorraine Hansberry Award and the Mark Twain Award for Humor.
Jackson was recently commissioned to write a play for the Lincoln Center, a play that was introduced at the prestigious Williamstown Play Festival and will open at the Lincoln Center this fall.
Co-sponsored by the Intercultural Center and Humanities and Fine Arts Division at KCKCC, it is open to the public without charge. A reception will follow the program from 11-11:30 a.m. To RSVP or for additional information, persons may call 913-288-7672.
