College Advancement
Interactive and fun “Saturday Spanish for Kids” classes will be offered at Kansas City Kansas Community College beginning Oct. 24.
Two three-week Saturday classes will be offered – one for boys and girls in kindergarten through second grade from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and another for boys and girls in the third through fifth grades from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Both classes will be taught in the Community Education Building on the east side of the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue. Classes will run through Nov. 14 but will not be held on Oct. 31.
“The secret to learning Spanish is to start early. Studies have shown that during childhood (ages 1-12), language learning happens effortlessly,” says instructor Stephanie Marquez.
Fun and interactive, the classes are designed for students interested in getting a jump start on learning about the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Students will be given a hands-on approach to learning age-appropriate Spanish songs with catchy tunes and simple lyrics, basic Spanish phrase and vocabulary and to create fun art projects centered on Hispanic culture. Through colorful graphics, body movement and repetition, students will also learn things such as numbers, alphabet, food, colors, animals, family, body parts, days and more.
The cost of the four-week class is $59 and boys and girls may be enrolled by phone with credit card payment at 913-288-7660 or in person in the Community Education Building (CEB) on the east side of the campus at 7250 State Avenue. Additional information can be obtained by calling Carla Pestock at 913-288-7189.
