College Advancement
Classes in Quilting, Floral Design and Knitting will be offered at the Technical Education Center of Kansas City Kansas Community College this spring.
Each of the classes will run from four to seven weeks at the Technical Education Center located at 2220 n. 59th Street. The classes:
Quilting, March 26-May 7 – A 7-week class offered on Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. in TEC Room A 209. In addition to learning the basics of quilt making – rotary cutting, machine quilting and binding – participants will complete a quilt project. Taught by Amber Smith, knowledge of basic sewing is a prerequisite. The cost is $75 or $65 for Silver Advocates and materials and supplies may be purchased after the first class.
Floral Design, April 1-May 13 – Offered Wednesdays for seven weeks from 6-9 p.m. in TEC Room A 203, participants will study floral design by creating wreaths, topiaries, centerpieces, swags, garlands, season arrangements and contemporary projects. Patricia Gerard will also provide methods taught in the floral industry using both silk and dried floral materials and participants will have the opportunity to create their own masterpieces during free project periods. The cost is $70 and $65 for Silver Advocates. A list of required items for the class can be found on-line at www.kckcc.edu under Continuing Education, Schedule and Personal Growth.
Knitting, April 7-28 – A 4-week class offered Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. in TEC Room A 319. A Craft Yarn Council of America certified instructor, Joan Daniels will teach participants who are just learning to knit from the beginning, those who are returning or those just wanting to get together with other knitters. The cost is $40 and $35 for Silver Advocates. A beginner’s packet will be available for $10 the first night of the class.
