Obtaining your EMS certification provides opportunities for employment by EMS Agencies, Fire Service Agencies, Hospital Emergency Departments/Clinics and Emergency Response Teams for industrial and service organizations.

The Emergency Medical Education Department at KCKCC offers several programs to prepare students for a career in Emergency Medical Services. These are Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic. Throughout the year, we offer additional EMS continuing education to EMS professionals to maintain certification, as well as specialized EMS courses, such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS and other EMS related courses. Emergency Medical Responder

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course prepares students to test for their National Registry and State of Kansas EMR written and practical exams leading to national and state certification. Emergency Medical Responders provide immediate on scene care until EMS transport services arrive. This course is ideal for firefighters, law enforcement personnel, athletic trainers, emergency response team members in the industrial setting, and emergency management personnel.

Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program prepares students to test for their National Registry and State of Kansas EMT written and practical exams leading to national and state certification. Within the program students develop Basic Life Support skills proficiency; learn to work within a team environment; develop effective communication skills across a diverse set of situations and cultures; and develop effective analytical and critical thinking skills to make appropriate decisions in critical and noncritical situations.

Paramedic

The Paramedic Program is designed to prepare individuals who are currently state certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to successfully fulfill the responsibilities of an independently functioning Paramedic.

The program will provide students with opportunities to gain information, skills, and attitudes necessary to perform the duties of Paramedic in a safe and competent manner. Stringent adherence to state-mandated regulations is required. Activities in the program help students to achieve the 21st Century outcomes of communication, computation, community service and learning, critical thinking/problem solving and interpersonal learning.

Emergency Medical Services Certificate

The EMS Certificate Program is designed to provide a well-rounded curriculum introducing and preparing students for a career in Emergency Medical Services at the entry level.
